Hand washing fun...

Written on December 18, 2007 by Kevin.

Rylan has a thing about being dirty. When he is eating and his hands get messy, he quickly says "hands dirty" which of course means he would like for us to wipe down his hands. Not wanting to do this forever, we started asking him to wipe his own hands and face. He does it without fuss most of the time. The funny part is that if his hands are just covered with food and you barely touch the napkin to his hand, he will be satisfied and go back to eating.

We have been working with him for a while now on washing his hands in the sink. In the past, we would hold him up to the sink and help explain the steps to washing. We had moved over to using a chair recently but this was more of a safety concern as the chair could easily slide out from under him. We went looking for a stool. While Christmas shopping, my wife came across Disney plastic stools that were going to work perfectly. Better yet, they came with Mickey and Pooh Bear themes. Rylan was super happy to see them. The rubber feet gripped the ground nicely once he stood on it. As you can see in the picture, it fits him well right now and with only a bit of tip toe action, he can wash his hands all by himself now. Now we need to get back to trying to potty train him. On that subject, we took one step forward when he used it for the first time but now refuses to sit on it. One thing at a time though...
