Week in Review

Written on February 29, 2008 by Rylan & Kaitlyn.

The past couple of weeks have been pretty crazy so there hasn't been much focus on the website. Me and Kaitlyn wanted to make sure we wrote about what has been going on.

Tomorrow we will just about finishing up our big home makeover when the new carpet is installed. My mom made sure to get a carpet that would hide any stains that we may cause so that is a good thing. Right now our carpet is pretty crummy because its all matted down and stained. It is going to be a huge improvement and really finish everything off nicely. I can't wait until I can run on it and Kaitlyn can do her crawling on it. It will definitely be more gentle on her knees.

Kaitlyn is still taking huge advancements in eating. She has been taking her cereal very well lately and now eats her puffs all by herself. Those puffs are a real pain though. She drops a lot of them on the floor and then we end up stepping on them and they stick to our feet!

Our dad's birthday was on Wednesday. I don't think it went as he would have hoped for though because we ended up in the car a good portion of the night which turned into a crying match between Kaitlyn and I. We celebrated with my Grandpa and Grandma at their house with pizza and ice cream though which was nice. We will be having dinner with my other Grandma soon as well.

We can't think of much else exciting that we had done this week so we are going to wrap it up. Have a great weekend everyone.

One year older..

Today is my day to become one year older.. With each passing year, I become smarter but I will never be as smart as Yoda. Today, I give the advice of Yoda to my children. Enjoy and remember, Sunscreen good.

She's a quick one..

Written on February 25, 2008 by Kevin.

It seems like just the other day that Kaitlyn was crawling.. well it was. She began crawling the other day and on that same day she began her journey of walking. With her hands and feet planted firmly on the floor, she stuck her butt in the air as to say she was going to master walking very shortly. Now with the help of her toys and the couch, she is able to pull herself up and stand up. She does this with a huge smile of accomplishment as you can imagine. If you hold her up and let go of her, she is able to hold herself for a few moments before she falls back down and giggles. Needless to say, we are amazed by her quick advancement and firmly believe she will be walking in her 8th month.

It took her too many long painful months to pop her first tooth but now they are starting to sprout more quickly. She is working on 2 new teeth currently that are bound to help her with her eating skills. Eating skills that have also greatly improved over the last week.

We fought with her for months now with eating cereal and she just wasn't going for it. Now after trying to apples and cereal in the jar, she is a bit more accepting of it. A sigh of relief. I figured she would never want to eat. With that change also came the change of self feeding. She now gobbles up the cherry puffs that we offer her. Like a fish, she will continue to eat and eat. Rylan takes part in this step as he loves to walk around with the puffs, feeding her and sneaking a few for himself as well.

This week has been a pretty crazy one.

First off, Kaitlyn is moving all over the place now. In fact, she is even trying to stand up and walk. As soon as she learned how to crawl, she started standing on her feet with her butt up in the air. With a bit of help though, she will walk with my mom's guidance. She can even hold herself up for a few seconds before she plops to the floor.

Kaitlyn had her first tooth pop up a few weeks ago but my mom just noticed yesterday that she has 2 more coming quickly. She is going to be able to eat big girl food in no time. She is always trying to steal my food though so I'm not sure if I really like that idea just yet.

As for me, my newest and greatest trick is calling my dad by his first name. I learned it from my mom because she always says it. Now I roam around the house yelling "Kevin!" in hopes that my dad will pop around the corner. Sometimes he magically appears! He is a ninja!

My grandma is with us today because they are finishing up the floor tiling in our house. It looks great. I can't wait until they put the new carpet in because I think it's going to be a great new thing to run around on and spill things on.

I need to get back to playing with my grandma. Have a good weekend everyone.

And shes off!

Written on February 19, 2008 by Kevin.

A bit sluggish but Kaitlyn has begun crawling as of yesterday. We had her upstairs in her room on the floor while we had an A/C checkout being performed and when we turned around she was up on her knees and just itching to go. As we watched she gave us a huge smile and then she was off. She wasn't going to win a race but she sure had a ball with it. She couldn't stop smiling as she continued on her trek.

She surprised us even more when she tried to stand up by lifting her butt in the air and standing on her feet. She definitely wants to get moving quickly. She confirmed this last night when she was standing up in front of me and then headed towards her mother in which she slowly walked with the help of my wife's legs. She is a tiny little girl and I can't imagine her walking at this point. She would be hazardous as we wouldn't even see her walking around.

Our trips to IKEA this week were very successful. Our house looks awesome. We have new couches to bounce off of and a new whole bunch of other things. Our mom and dad have a whole new bedroom it seems and it looks really nice too. We bought a bunch of stuff for our bedroom as well but until Kaitlyn is in her own real bed, we aren't making any changes just yet.

My dad wanted to apologize for the lack of pictures and posts this week. We had power issues with our laptop that have since been resolved so that is good. Next week everything should be back to normal.

Until then.. have a great weekend everyone. I know we will be having fun at the Wii Party our Aunt Jenette is putting together. Mario and Wuwigi!

I love you.

Written on February 13, 2008 by Kevin.

It has been along time coming but Rylan finally said "I love you" to my wife. This is despite me being the one trying to teach him the phrase. Arggh. We have been working hard with him lately trying to learn a few new words including "Thank you" and "Sorry". He has really taken to saying thank you and even says it in place of saying goodbye now. He occasionally says sorry but we are still working with that one.

All in all, he tries to repeat everything we say now. It is pretty nutty to have him saying just about everything I say including "pumperdinkle", "shinanigans" and best of all, "great googly moogly" which are some of my wife's most hated words in the world. I can't wait until he says those words on his own.

Doctor Updates

Written on February 12, 2008 by Kevin.

We took the kids yesterday to the doctor to get their rounds of the flu shot. Rylan got a chance to try the new FluMist flu vaccine which is a mist shot up the nose. Rylan took the first nostril just fine but went ballistic when the nurse tried the second. Kaitlyn had a normal flu shot which she wasn't too happy with.

We have confirmed that Kaitlyn has a condition called the pectus excavatum. Her case appears to not be severe however we were referred off to the thoracic(rawr!) surgeon to have it further looked over. Normally, this condition is more of a cosmetic than functional concern so it's more of just waiting to see how it evolves over the years.

To wrap up the visit, we got a referral for a dermatologist for Rylan as he has a minor case of eczema as well. His case mainly causes heat bumps on his arms and cheeks. His skin will be much easier to clear up than it was with Kaitlyn.

Kaitlyn's Cakey

Written on February 11, 2008 by Kevin.

When Rylan was born, we bought him a bear from the Build-A-Bear company. This weekend we finally got around to getting a stuffed animal for Kaitlyn. We called her Cakey because that is how Rylan says Kaitlyns name. Cakey is a baby safe hippopatumus. She seems to like it a lot as you can tell by the smile.

This weeks special word is change. Simply put, there have been a lot of changes going on lately and there are more to come.

The other night we stopped by Home Depot and suffered through a couple hours of this lady talking to my dad about carpets and tile. Since my parents had to make the decision to stay in our current house, they have decided to put some money back into the house and get new carpets and tiled installed. My mom was pretty smart and decided on a bit darker brown carpet to help keep any stains that the two of us can make to a minimum. The tile is going to be nice I think and probably will make the house look much much nicer.

Now if our Home Depot trip wasn't long enough, we were at IKEA for nearly 5 hours last night picking up just about one of everything in the store. We totaled 1 shopping cart overstuffed plus 4 other push carts full of large furniture and stuff. They are going to deliver it tomorrow so that is going to be pretty crazy. My dad is going to have a lot of work ahead of him building all of the stuff. I think he is up to the challenge though. There are a lot of changes happening so expect new pictures as we put things together.

What other changes.. let's see. Kaitlyn is doing really well now on the floor and she is able to get around pretty good. You turn your head for a second and she is all the way on the other side of the room. Last night I was playing peak-a-boo with her and she was giggling. Despite me bugging her much of the time, I think she has begun enjoying me and the and funny things that I do.

My Grandma is coming over today to have some fun with the two of us. I like when she brings lunch because she likes to bring apples which are really really yummy. I can't wait until Kaitlyn can begin eating these foods because you can tell that she really wants to. That will be one of the best changes of all.

Have a good weekend. I need go get my diaper changed. Ha Ha. Boy I crack myself up sometimes.

Kaitlyn and Hayden

Here is a picture of Kaitlyn and Hayden enjoying some time together a few weeks ago..

Presenting.. Princess and Mario

Written on February 4, 2008 by Kevin.

As you can see, Rylan really likes his Mario shirt that we made for him. A great quick project we did over the weekend a while back which just consisted of an iron-on transfer sheet and a couple of cheap white shirts. I think the kids are going to love designing their own shirts in the future.

It's Friday! Yippy! We have a lot of things planned for this weekend in celebration of my mom's birthday. Tonight we are heading out to my grandpas house to enjoy a taco night. Fiesta! Then over the weekend we are going to our grandma's house to have lasagna! I know Rylan is looking forward to both of these meals.

The big buzz this week here in Arizona is of course the Super Bowl. It's going to be crazy. I don't watch football at all but I think this will be one of the best games ever.

It was also my Uncle Sean's birthday this week as well. We went over there to give him a card and hang out with Hayden, our cousin. He sure is a fun kiddo to play with. I shared my ducky toy and he goobered all over it. Rylan liked playing with his toy gym pieces. He was making himself a fort to hide in I think. Hayden is doing a good job at crawling backwards. I am working hard myself learning how to crawl. It's really tough though.

We headed out shopping last night for mom clothes and when me and mom were looking, Rylan and my dad went upstairs. It turns out that Rylan wanted to go shopping for me. He brought back a pair of pink pants. They were cute but not cute enough. He sure is a good brother.

That's going to wrap it up this week. Have a good weekend.
