Week in Review

Written on May 29, 2009 by Rylan & Kaitlyn.

Well let's see what we did this week. Not much it turns out.

Everyone though has noticed that Kaitlyn has been saying more words lately. In fact she will pretty much try to say any word that you ask her to. Dad has been teaching her the names of our neighbors and we have all been going over colors lately too. Kaitlyn is doing really well.

Speaking of our neighbor, she had to be taken to the hospital the other day. Mom and dad kept us from seeing exactly what was happening but she was definitely not feeling well. We were concerned and we made get well soon cards for her. It must have worked really well because when we went over to her house to give them to her husband, she was home to take them. She definitely appreciated them.

Our garden is doing really well. It is going so well that we have started to give a few of our big sunflowers away to our neighbors and some of the people at our dad's work. The flowers are almost tall enough that Kaitlyn could sit under them and feel like she was in the jungle. Our lemon tree looked pretty bad but it's coming back now. Mom wants to plant us a tomato plant and few other vegetables too. Oh ya she wants a raspberry and blueberry bush as well because we tested them on Kaitlyn this week and she had no bad reactions to them like our mom normally does.

I think that's about it for the week. Our Grandma Michele is celebrating her birthday in a few days so we probably will be having a meal with her this weekend. Have a good weekend everyone. Hopefully your weekend will not be as hot as ours.

Weekend Treat

Written on May 25, 2009 by Kevin.

The kids celebrated the extended weekend with a special treat. We cooked them hot dogs and homemade potato wedges. To drink they had a specially made cherry coke. They finished the meal up with homemade chocolate Sunbutter candy bars. The kids definitely enjoyed their special meal as you can tell from the picture.

It rained last night! Kaitlyn and I went out in the rain and got a bit wet. It wasn't raining too much so we had a lot of fun just standing in it and getting wet. I kept bugging our dad for my umbrella but I am glad that he didn't get it because getting wet is half the fun.

We went over to our cousin Hayden's house last weekend. We celebrated his birthday and mom made the cake (shown below). It turned out great and his little party was fun. We got to go swimming too which is always a treat. Grandma and Grandpa showed up as well because they are back in town for the moment because our dads grandfather passed away last week.

We went to our great Grandpa's ceremony yesterday and while we were loud, we know that he would have appreciated us being there. Mom and dad talked to us about being good and everything started out great. Then it was just too quiet and I couldn't hold it in any longer. Mom gave us a small pack of Nerds candy and that didn't make it any better. It kept us quiet but the sound of the crunching Nerds seemed amplified. We ended up in the quiet room so everyone else could enjoy the ceremony and that was OK. We had a chance to see some of our family that we do not often see so that was nice.

Well jeez, thinking about it doesn't look like we have done much else this week. Hopefully this weekend is a bit more filled. Have a good weekend everyone.

Miracles do happen!

As Rylan became older his naps became shorter until they simply did not exist. The occasional nap happens after we head out for normal business after I get home from work. The car drives still get both kids to nap. The real oddity in this picture is not only is he napping but he is doing it on the couch where it really never happens. My wife is definitely enjoying this moment.

Well as promised, we let mom sleep for Mother's day. We ended up giving her card and we each signed it. Dad worked on a project for us that has pictures of us in it. It turned out pretty neat and we think our mom liked it.

Our Great Grandfather passed away this week. We had chance to see him a few months ago and then our dad had some time with him on Easter. Our grandparents are flying back into town for his funeral and during that time we will see them. We are going to have a small birthday get together for the upcoming family birthdays. It should be fun.

Well Dad found something that he knew was going to interest our mom. They are called cake balls. Basically it's cake that is rolled into a ball and then she covers them in chocolate. They are very very good. The picture below is what they look like. They taste even better than they look. We liked them so much that we tried to jump the kitchen gate to get our hands on them. Yummy yum yum!

Oh oh, speaking of goodies. We have been eating chili dogs lately. Mom found a great recipe for chili sauce that is really really good too. We can't get enough of this stuff. We have had some good hot dogs in our days but these take the top prize. There are few foods that can beat these except maybe those cake balls. :)

Kaitlyn has been getting dancing lessons lately. Well if you want to call it that. Dad has been dancing her around lately like a princess. She loves it but he sure does look goofy. He gets all dizzy because he has no idea what he is doing. It's definitely a funny sight.

That ends another week of review. Have a good weekend and hopefully your temperatures will be better than ours. Reaching 106F in May is not what we call fun. In fact it stinks because it is really hard to go outside and play when it's so hot.

Kaitlyn's Bad Hair Day

This of course was the result of me leaving rubber bands in her hair while she fell asleep for the night. Lesson learned.

Week in Review

Written on May 8, 2009 by Rylan & Kaitlyn.

Well by far this weeks most alarming thing was when our Mom noticed a bump near Kaitlyn's groin when she was changing her diaper. We immediately had her doctor take a look and were told to have it checked out with an ultrasound. We headed over there and the technician said it just looked like a cyst. The radiologist though said it looked like a cyst or something on a lymph node which apparently can be a sign of leukemia. After doing blood work a few days later and then waiting, we have been assured that she does not have leukemia. We are all very very happy about that. The instructions now are just to watch the bump and see how it changes. They think it will go away on its own without any issue. The blood actually said she was in great health so that's good to know.

Well let's see. Mom has been making a lot of cakes lately. She finally found a great recipe that both taste great and is firm enough. She has already made two big cakes for us and the neighbors. I think our neighbors really appreciate the cakes. One of them likes them so much that she wants to start a cake business with our mom. How crazy would that be.

The weather is really hot here. It is almost too hot to go outside to water the garden and play around. We have a bit of extra shade because our Mom and Dad worked on putting up a canopy but it still is hot. Dad and I were running around yesterday when Kaitlyn was up stairs taking a nap. I surprised our Dad when I told him that I wanted to play hide and seek. I told him where to hide and then I ran the other direction. I said "Ready or not, here I come!" and then ran to find him. He was an easy find.

This weekend is of course moms day. We are going to give her the entire weekend really and be on our best behavior. We have been working on a small gift for her but it still needs to be completed. We think she will like it a lot.

Have a great weekend everyone.

The Kid's Latest Artwork

Written on May 7, 2009 by Kevin.

The top board is Rylan's and he tells us that it is a picture of Disneyland. We are drawn and it even includes a Mickey balloon. Kaitlyn's is a nice abstract piece that really is finished off by the shoe prints. Both pieces are now featured in our bathroom. They are not currently for sale.

The Kid's Garden Update.

Written on May 6, 2009 by Kevin.

The kid's garden is growing quite well. We planted these sunflowers on the Easter weekend and they are coming up nicely. Our entire backyard is nearly taken over and the kids love it. Every couple of days they get to head out and water the plants. We now have a dwarf lemon tree and some freshly planted pepper seeds. The kids are definitely excited about their project but still need a bit of understanding that you can't just keep watering the plants for an hour.

Looking Pretty...

Last weekend we had lunch with our Grandpa Paul and Grandma Debra. They are heading out of town for the summer so we wanted to see them before they drove up north. We had a good lunch with them and then we headed over to see that Hotels for Dogs movie. They weren't able to come and it's probably a good thing because even though the movie was filled with dogs, it wasn't too good.

Our garden is getting really active now. We have seeds that are growing really really well. We have had to toss a few plants that weren't able to survive the hot and beating sun but we have replaced them with different things to try again. Last night we picked up a lemon tree which should be pretty neat. We also picked up some plant food which hopefully will keep these plants healthy. They garden is definitely turning into a great place to be and play at.

When our Dad got the cd player into the car, we started listening to more of the kid song music. It has been a lot of fun and we both sing along really well. We both really like our ABCs song and even Kaitlyn is saying them now. Kaitlyn got a Choo Choo Soul CD for Easter and we are both loving that one too.

That's gonna wrap it up. Have a safe weekend everyone!
