Happy Birthday Mom!

Dear Wife,
Just imagine he says your name instead of Smith.
I hope you have a wonderful birthday.

It is really hard to pull Rylan and Kaitlyn apart. Rylan still can't seem to be close to her enough, so he is always bugging her throughout the day. He just loves to play with the toys that she is and easily disrupts the fun she is having. I guess having a brother that loves her so much is a great but not so great thing. You can definitely tell that they love each other though.
One of my many father talents is playing with Rylan and doing my famous zombie walk while trying to eat Rylan. This is easily 15 minutes of fun with Rylan running around for dear life, all the while screaming and laughing. When I look over at Kaitlyn, she has the most worried face possible as if I really am going to take her favorite brother away. When I move forward to Kaitlyn and tell her I am going to start eating her toes, Rylan will come run between us and try to stop me. He put his life on the line so that I can't eat her feet.
What more could you ask for from a brother?
It has been days, weeks, and months in the making but Kaitlyn's first tooth seems to have popped out finally. This is as much of a blessing for us as it is for Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn had to deal with the pain of the actual tooth while we had to deal with the pain of a baby crying for hours and hours.
Related or not, she has been doing great lately on her own when we place her on the floor to play. In days past, she would begin crying shortly after being put down but now she seems to enjoy her time. We can't wait for her to begin crawling.
I decided to hijack my dad's account today so that I could do a week in review on my own. Don't tell Rylan though because he would go crazy if he knew. He sure can be a booger sometimes.
Speaking of boogers, rice cereal sure taste like one. That stuff is rotten! My mom has been trying to feed it to me for weeks now and I am just not going for that yucky stuff. They have even tried giving me those baby puffs to try and eat but even those don't interest me. I got my mom back though and yesterday I peed on her twice within a few hours. Maybe she will learn and not try and feed me that yucky stuff again.
I have had alot of fun lately sitting up and playing with my toys like the Brightlings and even my brothers Little Tykes piano. I think I might record a few demos and put them up on iTunes. I think that it would be fun.
My mom says that I have been cranky and gassy lately but I really think its an understatement. My teeth hurt for gosh sake. Besides, the other day I had a crazy blowout at the mall that ended with my mom just tossing out my onesie. I think that is a good enough reason to cry for a few days. To top that all off, I have a meanie brother that says ROAR!! to me in the middle of the night. I am going to get him back one day.
I think I had better wrap it up before Rylan spots me. Have a good weekend everyone.
The other morning I was waking up to head off to work and I heard Kaitlyn talking in the other room. This was the type of talking that leads up to the crying due to being hungry and in need of a diaper change. A split second later I hear a ROAR!!! sound. It was Rylan presumably at the crib scaring Kaitlyn.
As I got ready for work I let my wife know that she needed to check on them. She headed in and grabbed Kaitlyn and asked that Rylan go back to bed. Rylan headed right back into bed and after a quick sip of water he was zonked back out and breathing like he does when he is sleeping. It dawned on my wife at that moment that it seems that Rylan was sleepwalking. As I have mentioned in the past, I definitely have an issue with sleepwalking which I trigger with certain foods. We are now on the lookout for what may have caused Rylan's possible sleepwalking episode.
I have never been on the other side of a sleepwalker so it's a bit interesting to me. Ultimately I think I would be able to help Rylan understand what's going on because if it's anything like mine, it can be a pretty crazy and serious thing to deal with.
A while back, my wife and I became interested in purchasing old records to play for the children. We are only interested in Disney related ones that the kids will be able to associate with the movies they enjoy. We have been slowly building a small stack of them over the past 9 months or so just waiting to find a record player to go along with them. We looked everywhere but just couldn't find a decent one.
This past Christmas though we were surprised with a brand new record player that also plays CDs and the radio too. I quickly set it up at home to see how Rylan would respond. We are lucky to have his favorite movie which is still Mary Poppins on record and he now asks for us to play it. He also loves to request the Jungle Book record and even lately he has been asking for the Aristocats. This last weekend I was lucky enough to find a couple more Walt Disney Collection records which have different music from different movies. Some of the songs are originals from the movies and others are not which is a bit of a dissappointment.
I think it's nice that Rylan and Kaitlyn soon will be able to enjoy the way things used to be done. I know as a kid I had a record player in my home and while I did not use it often, it's something I will always remember. A bonus to this all is that when we turn on one of Rylan's request, he loves to either dance to the music or sits calmly on the couch listening. He can't seem to get enough of it.
Do you think he possibly needs a haircut?
It really is no secret. My wife and I love to go to Disneyland. The kids have each gone there since they were very young as well so they are definitely likely to become lifetime fans as well. How do you get your Disney fix when you cannot be at the park? Try having Disney pancakes and toast..
For a while now, we have had a Mickey toaster which is meant to burn Mickeys face into your toast. While it doesn't work great and only seems to show up clearly when basically burn it, the fact that it plays the Mickey Mouse theme song at the end always gets Rylan excited for breakfast.
Welcome our latest toy. The Mickey and Friends pancake maker. In fact, this makes more than just pancakes. It can make anything from cake to muffins and everything in between. It molds the pancakes into the faces of the 6 main characters. I purchased this from our local Frys grocery store and in fact, I got it for free due to a pricing issue. I walked out of the store with a huge smile. This last weekend I gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised on how well they each turned out. I made over 30 of these mini pancakes and as Rylan stood by watching me, you could watch as his smile got bigger and bigger as they came out. He loves to name each of the characters as he eats them.
I ended up freezing a large portion the batch and they made great breakfasts for him. I think that this will be one of our new routines as a family and I think Rylan couldn't be happier. Kaitlyn is quickly learning to love Disney as well and is very attracted to Rylan's large Tigger toy.
We have now had the Nintendo Wii for over a month now and we are still loving it. We highly recommend it for any family. My father and my sister both have one as well. It really is a game system for all ages.
Rylan, being the 2 year old that he is, has always wanted to play with us. Not wanting to damage the expensive controllers, we choose to give him our DVD player remote in hopes that he would be satisfied. He couldn't be happier. We made the controller a bit more like ours by buying a white silicon cover for it and stretched it over it. He loves to swing his arms around while we play a round of golf or really any game. He gets as much into it as we do. If we do a good or terrible job at an event he will get excited with us. It's really quite funny to watch.
We are slowly adjusting Rylan into being able to play the Wii for real. We want to see him bowl a strike or hit a hole in one. I can only imagine that it won't take long for him to pick up on it all and start beating us both. Kids are crazy.
Welcome to 2008. Just another day really.
We rang the new year in by having the grandparents over. We had no interest in heading out to eat and fighting the crowds so we stayed home and had one of our favorite local burger shops. Tasty as always, it gave us the energy to do what we were all there for. That was to play on the Wii. The grandparents have a Wii of their own but none of the games that we do. My wife and I mainly focus on party games so it was fun to include the grandparents and show them a bunch of new games.
The grandparents left early and that was about it. My wife and I put the kids to sleep and went on with our evening like it was any other. I remember as a kid when New Years Eve was a huge celebration. Now, it's just another day. Dang I am a party pooper.
