Week in Review

Written on October 30, 2009 by Rylan & Kaitlyn.

Well this week has really been around planning for the upcoming Halloween party tomorrow. We haven't really done much else really. Just a few random trips here and there. Oh, our great Aunt Glory and Uncle Peter came into town. They brought us a few coloring books and we immediately got to work on them. We headed out to dinner with them and a few other family members. We had fun just talking and eating together.

Our Dad went to work today dressed in his costume so they he could celebrate at work. He dressed up as a munchkin in the Lollipop Guild group. He looks really good and ended up winning his work costume contest. That means he gets an extra paid day off from work. We are definitely going to have a great time with him.

I guess that was about it for the week. We are definitely looking forward to tomorrow evening and will be hopefully posting pictures. We have the whole house decorated.

Have a fun and a bit scary Halloween everyone!

The garden project complete.

Written on October 26, 2009 by Kevin.

The backyard garden project has been completed. I ended up making 2 raised beds which provide us with a great place to plant vegetables and it also provides us with a place to sit. After all said and done, the end result turned out ok. Sure I wasn't like Bob Villa but it works. My second area was done much better than the first as I was learning along the way. We all really like it though and that is all that really matters. We have always thought the small backyard we had was more of an eye sore than a place to hang out but that is changing now. The kids will definitely be getting more use of the area now.

Well of course this was the week after my birthday so we had a lot of fun with all of the new gifts I received. Mom and Dad got me a Wii game that made for kids my age. It is the Cosmic Family game and it's pretty fun. I got so many gifts it's crazy.

It has also been a week of ups and downs. One of the gifts from my last birthday was for me and Kaitlyn to each get a fish. We picked them out and then mine went away on a vacation and never seemed to come back. We finally picked up another one recently and then it got sick. We got a few new ones and they got sick as well. On Wednesday we had a surprise because the new dalmatian molly fish had 2 babies! One of them definitely had some problems but the other one and the mom looked OK. The next day they were both gone. We are now left with another empty tank. I think we are going to hold off on the fish for now. They sure were fun to watch swim around all fast, especially the super tiny baby.

On a more positive note, our dad finished up the backyard garden. We now have to raised beds that are housing a bunch of goodies. The peas are coming in fast. We headed over to a farmers market yesterday and had a chance to try a few new things. Kaitlyn and I both liked the radishes that the lady was selling. We picked up an indian heirloom onion as well which should be neat to watch split into twos if we put it in the garden. Our dad has been working hard on the project and it really turned out great. I think he will be putting pictures up on Monday.

Well this weekend we may head over to a fall festival or something but otherwise we may just hang out. The weather is really nice lately here so we are finally able to comfortably do stuff outside. Have a good weekend.

Rylan's Ridemakerz visit

Written on October 20, 2009 by Kevin.

We had Rylan's birthday party on Saturday but his birthday was not until Sunday. We headed out as a family to celebrate by taking him to the Ridemakerz store with a giftcard from Grandpa Fredrick. This store is similar to the Build-A-Bear store but with boys in mind. You choose your car body, wheels, stickers and other goodies. Rylan had a chance to help build it by putting on the body, wheels and tires. He finished up with a great car and was very excited despite what the second picture may show. It was exhausting building that car and Rylan really showed it. In reality, not only did he get presents for his birthday, he also got sick. He fought through it however and his birthday turned out great.

Welcome Year Four!

Rylan had a great birthday party with friends and family. We headed over to a bowling alley to have fun at Cosmic Bowling. We had taken the kids once to try bowling but it was during a normal session so the extra lights and music really made it fun. Rylan's mom made another great cake which of course was Backyardigan themed, like the rest of the birthday. There is no doubt that he had a great time. I will have more pictures tomorrow of what he did on his actual birthday.

Well let's see what has been going on recently...

Dad basically completed his raised garden bed project. Our Mom and Dad filled it in with some goodies for us to watch grow. They dropped in 3 different types of peppers, tomatoes, garlic, cauliflower, peas and carrots. We also have basil, apple mint and chocolate mint. Last night we picked up some pineapple sage and rosemary. Dad thinks the pineapple sage will go really well with the turkey he is making for Thanksgiving. The raised bed seemed to turn out well enough that he is going be making another smaller one on the other side of our patio. It is where the herbs will be planted. It should look nice when its all done. We finally have some seating in our backyard!

Last night we swung by the place we are going to have my birthday party at tomorrow. We will be bowling for this years party and it should be pretty neat. We got everything finalized and we are definitely going to have a pretty good turnout of family and friends. Of course if my birthday party is tomorrow, my birthday must be right around the corner. It is on the 18th and I am really looking forward to being four years old. Time has really flown by but I am looking forward to a new change and I think turning four will really help. Mom is making yet another wonderful cake for my party. I have seen sneak peaks of it while she has been working on it and I am very excited.

While we were out last night, we headed over to the Build a Bear store and we each picked out an animal. I picked out their turkey and named it Super Backpack. Yeah I know it is weird but that was just the right name. Kaitlyn picked out a Halloween purple kitty and named her Violet.

Kaitlyn seemed to get sick last night but now she is getting over it. She resting today with her new kitty and just taking in the whole experience. Sometimes just relaxing is all that you need to feel better. I need her be 100% tomorrow so that we can have a lot of fun bowling.

I guess that is about all that I can think of this morning. Have a good weekend everyone! I know we will be.

Week in Review

Wow this has been Kaitlyn's week of words. She has really broken out of her shell and started to say a bunch of new words and sentences. She is really getting her word across now and I don't have to translate for her. She really is turning into such a big girl.

I received an early gift from my Grandpa Paul and Grandma Debra this week. It really excited me to get some mail of my own. I opened it up to find a great coloring book which I immediately began working on. My Grandma Michelle also surprised me last night by buying me a new goldfish. My last one went on vacation with his Mom and Dad but still hasn't come back. I think he is still at Disneyland. We also picked up one of those fish that sucks the glass. We are naming it Rella because that is Kaitlyn's way of saying Cinderella which of course is cleaning all day. My new fish is named after the last one, Bubble Gum, because he has those bubble cheeks.

We picked up the Snow White movie that they released again. We had never seen it but it definitely is a great movie.Just like the Wizard of Oz, this will certainly be one of our favorite movies for a while. Speaking of the Wizard of Oz, our Dad has decided on what he is going to be for Halloween. Let's just say he is going to be interesting looking. We are definitely going to need to take pictures and videos.

We are excited because this weekend we are going to our first birthday party for a friend. It is for our neighbors grandson that is turning one. Mom is making one of her special yummy cakes. It should be a lot of fun.

Only 8 more days until my own birthday party and 9 more until my actual birthday. Of course after that is Halloween which is going to be super exciting as well. We have been preparing for Halloween by watching a few Halloween related movies lately. It certainly helps get you in the mood.

That's all for the week. Have a great weekend. Hopefully the weather will be as good as it has been lately. Have fun.

Our latest project..

Written on October 6, 2009 by Kevin.

Over the past year or so we have had a small garden in our small backyard. The kids have enjoyed watching the sunflowers grow from seeds to over 7 feet tall. We have basil, peppers, tomatoes, and citrus. Some of it has worked out while others have faded away. We have been attacked by mating bugs, flying bugs and recently mushrooms. We are pressing on however by creating a raised garden bed. With a bit of planning, this is the beginning. The kids will have a small place to sit while outside and we can keep a nice garden at a height that we can all work on.

I am certainly not Bob Villa but I do have a lot of experience watching the home shows as a kid. I like to think I know a lot about building things but when it comes down to it, my skills are far less than my imagination.

The pictures below are the initial layout. Yesterday after work, I cemented everything together so we should be able to fill it in with soil today. Today will be the day of conquer or defeat. Did my poor masonry skills hold strong? Will everything come crumbling down from the pressure of the soil? We will soon find out.

Well this week flew by for us all.

We really enjoyed last weekend and the slumber party that we had. We had a lot of fun just watching movies with her and eating cake balls. They sure were tasty and Grandma was fun to hang out with. She read us books and does a really good job at it. Thanks Grandma for staying the night with us. We hope it's not the last!

Speaking of movies, we picked up the Wizard of Oz DVD the other day and have already watched it a few times. Mom and Dad were telling us how good it was and we both think they are right. It really is a good movie. It's just a matter of time before Kaitlyn is asking our Mom to make her a Dorothy outfit. She sure would look cute.

Let's see... We are going to hang out with Grandma Debra and Grandpa Paul this weekend because they just returned for a 3+ month long vacation. It has been a long time since we have been able to really see them. We are going to head over to our local train park where Kaitlyn had her birthday party. The weather is finally cooling down so it will definitely be a great visit. We can ride on the miniature train and the merry-go-round too. We are definitely looking forward to it.

That's about all that we can think of for this week. Have a great weekend everyone.

The kids step into a galaxy far far away...

Written on October 1, 2009 by Kevin.

We headed over to our local library yesterday to check out a Star Wars event they were having. Kaitlyn was a bit worried but Rylan was thrilled to see and take a picture of some of the Star Wars characters. The Star Wars movies are something we haven't had a chance to show the kids but definitely will be in the future.
